Still Summer Jacquelyn Mitchard Books

I have read all of Mitchard's books. I read a books in most every genre, as I am an avid reader with a wide array of interests, yet I am rather choosy. There are so many good books to be read, I do not want to waste time ( or money) on badly written books.

I no longer bother to read the book description, or review of a book by Mitchard. They can never do her justice in any case. Somehow they all come out making the story sound less than it is.

The characters in Still Summer ( as in all of Mitchard's novels) are so rich, the story captivating, that you will find it hard to put this book down. A cruise that is meant to be a little bit of paradise for the four women in the story ends up being anything but.

The storm at sea, and the personal storms within the lives of these women combine to make a story that is compelling and extraordinary.

read it.

Then pick up another of her books and read it too!

Still Summer Jacquelyn Mitchard Books Reviews

I have been a fan of Jacquelyn Mitchard's writing after reading The Deep End of the Ocean so I looked forward to this novel with great anticipation.
Although I read it completely through, it did not "grab" me or give me a sense that I really knew the characters, not in the same way other books of her had.
My main issues with this book
1. I felt it took a long time to get going. Focusing on three high school friends- Olivia, Holly and Tracy -and their reunion after Olivia's husband dies, the author spends a great deal of time setting up the introduction to the main action. It was hard to see where this was going and how everything would connect, let alone lead to a critical turning point.

2. Sloppy proofreading. On p. 73, the word cinnamon roll is spelled "cinnamon role". Of course, this will be a way to tell the first edition from later editions as I hope this mistake will be corrected.

3. Lack of detailed characterizations. I did not have the sense that the author was passionate about this book. Again, I admit I may have a bias because of the quality in The Deep End of the Ocean, a book I have reread many times and which grabs the reader from page one and never lets go.
I've noticed others here gave the book 4 and 5 stars. I admit my expectations may have been high based on The Deep End of the Ocean.
I was expecting great drama on the high sea's, what I got was a book with contrived and boring characters, a plot full of holes and horrible editing and spelling. This book wouldn't even make a good "LifeTime" movie, it was that bad.

I can't recommend this book to anyone and am ashamed of myself for wasting not only my time, but my money on this garbage.
Interestibg adventure of former high school women friends who decide to rent a sailing ship for a cruise in the Carribean. They are challenged by memories of their past; attacked by pirates; & surviving a danagerous storm
Looking for a really fascinating story that will keep you on the edge of your seat? This is it! As usual, Jacqueline Mitchard has come up with with a wonderful cast of characters that she describes in such detail that you feel you know them. Four 40-ish women who were the best of friends in high school (calling themselves "The Godmothers") decide to have a little reunion after one of them is widowed. They charter a yacht in the Caribbean, complete with a crew of two, for a week to just relax, get some sun, and talk--perhaps shop a little on an island or two. It turns out to be more than any of them bargained for, with pirates, murder, starvation, deception--you name it! Each one's character is tested to the nth degree with some surprising plot twists. This is not great literature, but it is more than just "chick lit." I loved this book.
Very good read kept my interest till the end. Was not predictable. The characters were described very well. SAD in some places but revealing and realistic story
I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. First, I know some things about sailing and was able to follow the descriptions of the boat, her sailing, lines in the rudder (who hasn't had this?)and got caught up in the excitement of being on the open water. Secondly, I enjoyed the different characters and their personality developments along the way. And thirdly, I enjoyed the suspense of the action at sea.
This book isn't perfect but it's a fun read. I didn't want to put it down once I got into the actual story on the boat and the happenings started happening quickly.
I recommend it for those who enjoy a quick paced story and are willing to overlook the technical flaws. A good fall/bad weather/nighttime read.
Enjoy.
It wasn't too bad in the beginning, but once they boarded the ship one of the crew couldn't keep his pants zipped.
Went after one of the original group of women, then went on shore and had it with the daughter.
At that point I donated it to the library. I wasn't about to read what happened when they met up with pirates.
There are few writers, good writers, that can produce something interesting without going straight for the sex.
I started re-reading the Mitford series by Jan Karon. It's good to be back in Mitford, where there is no trash.
